HOLBEIN DAGGER

The dagger of this
characteristic shape appeared for the first time in the middle of
the 15th century and soon became a typical weapon used by Swiss mercenaries.
These daggers were manufactured in southern Germany and in Switzerland throughout the 16th century.

Sheaths of these weapons were decorated with reliefs created
imitating contemporary artistic patterns. The most famous of these patterns
were created by an artist Hans Holbein junior in his series of wood-carvings,
called "the Death dance", in 1530. Therefore this type of weapon is very often called the Holbein dagger.
